Odisha: Villager kills Ex-VC of Sambalpur University with Axe over Rs 100 in Jharsuguda district

Jharsuguda SP BC Das said that the accused Prabin Dharua, 20, a resident of the village, has been arrested from a nearby forest and is being questioned by the police.

A startling incident has come to light from Odisha`s Jharsuguda district, where Professor Dhrubaraj Naik, an eminent environmentalist and former vice-chancellor of Sambalpur University was murdered on Sunday for just Rs 100. Accused Prabin Dharua stabbed him to death at his residence in Kuarmal village in Jharsuguda district. The accused person is from his village and has been arrested from a nearby forest.

People of his house told that a boy from the village forcibly entered their house with an axe in his hand in the afternoon; however, Prof. Dhrubaraj was not in the house, while his daughter Ahilya and son-in-law were present in the house at that time. The young man who forcibly entered the house was demanding Rs 100 from them and suddenly Prof. Dhrubaraj came back to his house from somewhere and he tried to force the young man out of the house.

An argument broke out between the two. In the meantime, the young man attacked Prof. Dhrubaraj with an axe, after he fell to the ground. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

While giving information on this matter, Jharsuguda SP BC Das said that the accused Prabin Dharua, 20, a resident of the village, has been arrested from a nearby forest and is being questioned by the police.
