Good news for all and for an institution in Bhubaneswar that, few of its students are going to make us proud by representing India in the Tokyo Olympics.

Odisha this time has a reason to smile as it is sending three players of Hockey to the Tokyo Olympics and, besides that, 3 athletes who hail from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology have qualified for the Olympics.

First-Ever Feat

That is all for the first time that the state has been able to pitchfork so many young talents to the mega event that itself is the reason for applause.

Famous sprinter of international repute Dutee Chand, supposedly the PT Usha in the making, has also qualified for the Olympics and in no other than women’s 100 m and 200 hundred events.

Dutee’s tale has remained a poignant and inspiring one of how she grew in the mud flat single room and soon zoomed into fame through her feats in several national and international events.

But, one cannot grudge the credit that belongs to the founder of Kalinga Institute of Social Science, Dr.Achyut Samant for his help in training and promotion of Dutee in all aspects of her requirement to make to the big tracks.

Even Shivpal Singh, Javeline throw, and C A Bhavani Devi, Fencer, have qualified for the Olympics, hail from KIIT.

One cannot dispute the fact that KIIT is the only university in the country to have succeeded in building such a number of sportspersons to the Olympics.

“ I have very recently created a new national record and could break my own record by clocking 11.7 seconds at the national Grand Prix 4 in Patiala,” Dutee told NYOOZ.COM and added that, “ I am very hopeful that I shall bring a medal for the country in Olympics”. Dutee is going to Olympics for the second time.

It will be a very different and trying time this time that each participant has to be quarantined for five days and that worries many about workouts before the Games.

Odisha’s Thrust On Sports

The construction of India`s largest Hockey Stadium in Rourkela is in full swing to host the 2023 Men`s Hockey World Cup.

The Odisha government`s groundbreaking deal with Hockey India was unprecedented in the Indian sporting arena -- a state was sponsoring national hockey teams (Men and women). With the deal, the state government will pay Rs 120 crore in 5 years beginning from 2018 to Hockey India.
