Odisha STF busts illegal arms deal, 2 arrested, 10 firearms seized

Odisha STF caught Basant Moharana of Nayagarh and Krishna Chandra Srichandan of Khordha town red-handed while selling illegal arms.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch in Odisha has arrested two people for allegedly being involved in illegal arms trade and seized 10 guns from them. A police officer gave this information on Sunday.

An old and notorious criminal of the illegal arms trade, including his associates, were arrested on Saturday by the Special Task Force of the Odisha Crime Branch and a huge quantity of lethal weapons were seized from them. A case was registered against both of them under the Arms Act and sent to judicial custody on Sunday.

STF Superintendent Tejeshwar Patel said that based on a tip-off, the STF caught Basant Moharana of Nayagarh and Krishna Chandra Srichandan of Khordha town red-handed while selling illegal arms. The seized weapons include five pistols/revolvers, five SBML guns, eight cartridges. A motorcycle and other materials were also seized from them, he said.

STF raided on the basis of intelligence inputs about the purchase/sale of illegal arms near Siko village of Janakia police border area of ​​Khordha district. The superintendent said that a case was registered against those arrested under various sections of the Arms Act. They were also involved in other criminal activities in other districts.
