Watch: India successfully test-fires surface-to-air Akash-NG missile for second time in 3 days off Odisha coast

India has successfully test-fired Akash-NG missile from LC 3, Chandipur off Odisha coast today. This is the second time this missile has been successfully test-fired in India within three days.

Official sources said that the missile is equipped with all types of weapon systems like multi-role radar, command, control and communication systems and launchers, was test-fired from the ground platform at around 1.45 pm (12:45). This missile will be used by the Indian Air Force to deal with airstrikes.

The length of this missile is 560 cm and the width is 35 cm. This missile has the power to carry explosives up to 60 kg weight. Akash missile is fully manoeuvrable and is capable of protecting a moving convoy of vehicles.


The Hyderabad-based Defense Research and Development Laboratory has developed this missile system in collaboration with the laboratories of DRDO.

The team of Indian Air Force officers also witnessed this test. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Air Force and Defense Enterprise for its second successful test run in just three days. He said that this missile made of state-of-the-art indigenous technology will increase the firepower of the Indian Air Force manifold.
