Obesity is a major problem for today’s generation. Poor lifestyle is the main reason behind the cause. To face the challenge requires huge restraint on our choice.

From childhood parents remain deeply concerned for the children, towards their future, more on education. Of late, it has grown to be very obsessive in its approach.

However, inadvertently, the children are deprived of the scope for physical activities. Hardly people realize the fact that in the process the kids suffer from a detachment from physical activities which subsequently leads to obesity.

It Is Not An Over Night Problem

From childhood to adolescence the focus is unilateral and i.e education. This presumably stems from the craze of a career even before the child grows.

In one way, that is good but, physical activities are one indispensable need for mental health. An hour or two for a routine open-air workout, in any form, do the magic, off-loading the entire day’s mental and physical load.

Time has changed and so also the lifestyle. The parents are unable to break the spiral of the education format which starts very early.

This apparently leaves the children at tether’s end with an overindulgence with the study, leading to a situation where the childhood gets somehow suppressed. And that is a phase of life that can never be redeemed.

When parents become more of teachers than father and mother.  A kind of give-and-take situation that completely transforms childhood from its real essence.

Drawing Room Shoppers!

It is not much different when we look back at the adults. The same lethargy prevails all over. With the advent of the internet and online and so on, people have resigned to a lifestyle that is purely bereft of the cycle of movements.

No doubt, ushering in of technology has left us with numerous advantages. From this, the consumers fulfill their household requirements easily with just a click. The facility of online orders has opened a space for doorstep delivery services.

Which encouraged the people, to get essential items delivered without going out for a step. But the practice of dependency developed lethargy in the mind and body helping the accumulation of fat. Which is the mother of obesity.

“Digital platform helps my family to procure the essential items easily by seating at home. Nowadays, stuffs like groceries, vegetables, non-veg, cooked items, medicines, etc. Are delivered online.  It may sound good the practice builds in within a mental lassitude that is hard to be replenished” said Mahesh, a medical student.

Now the ongoing pandemic has, of course, doubled this over-dependency on less movement and the luxury of being at home, subsequently speaking on health. And the end result is an accumulation of weight and fat.

Crazy Food Habits

Bad eating habits also add to the woes. Calorie-rich foods became a craze among children in all sections of society.  Like fried foods, packed items, rich in sugar, preservatives & others are doing the round in our metabolic regime.

Contrary to that the intake of calories is not matched with the use of it by workouts like various physical parameters. Besides oversized food what adds to the problem is the time we spend in offices or equal engagements when activities remain below minimal and that helps obesity.

The absence of nutritious foods & untimely eating also helps in gaining artificial weight. Along with these, stress also causes overweight. Like the increase in glucocorticoid stress hormones like cortical.

“Obesity doesn’t occur overnight. It piles up gradually over time, as a result of improper diet & lifestyle . Following a good lifestyle is a major problem for today’s generation”  said    Piyush Mohanty, a nutritionist.

It all leads to a state when obesity becomes a condition with extra body fat and increases the risk of diseases and health problems such as diabetes, high cholesterol, anxiety, blood pressure, etc.

In which obesity remains a predominant factor aggravating the woes of the entire system. Obesity is such a complex problem that it has become a great concern worldwide.

The body mass index is the primary calculus by which we measure obesity but that alone cannot be the final screening mechanism. It is required to be seen on the mental and functional engagement of a person.
