Odisha cabinet approves 89 multi-purpose indoor stadiums in 85 urban areas, to be completed in 18 months

These stadiums will be built in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela as well as 30 municipalities and 52 notified area councils. Under this, Rs 10.15 crore will be spent on stadiums to be built in municipal corporations and Rs 6.40 crore will be spent in notified area councils.

Overwhelmed by India`s recent success in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, the Odisha government on Monday announced construction of 89 multi-purpose indoor stadiums in various urban areas of the state with an investment of Rs 693.35 crore. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. On this occasion, the cabinet also appreciated the Olympic medalists. After the meeting, Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra said, `The cabinet has specially praised the Indian hockey teams for their excellent performance.

Under the Urban Sports Infrastructure Development Project (Urban Sports Infrastructure Development Project), these stadiums will be built in the next 18 months.

Odisha`s Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tusharkanti Behera said that this will give a big boost to the development of sports in the state. The state government will implement this project in 85 urban areas including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela. Through these the Odisha government wants to bring changes in sports in the state. These stadiums will be named Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium.

These stadiums will be built in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela as well as 30 municipalities and 52 notified area councils. Under this, Rs 10.15 crore will be spent on stadiums to be built in municipal corporations and Rs 6.40 crore will be spent in notified area councils.

It has been told that these multipurpose indoor stadiums will have facilities for badminton, table tennis, tennis, yoga etc. This will help in further strengthening the image of Odisha as a sports hub.
