Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik felicitates hockey players, handed over Rs 2.5 crore each, DSP post to bronze medal winners

Minister Naveen Patnaik honoured the players of the hockey team that created history in the Tokyo Olympics. Men`s and women`s hockey team players Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas were honoured at a function held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

On this occasion, CM Naveen handed over the appointment letter of DSP in the state police along with Rs two crore 50 lakh cash to Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas, members of the bronze medal winning team in men`s hockey.

At the same time, Namita Toppo and Grace Ekka, who were included in the women`s hockey team, were also given cash prizes of Rs 50 lakh for reaching the semi-finals. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that his government will always work for the development and promotion of sports and sportspersons.

Along with this, while continuing to work hard, he also advised to keep the name of the country high. Men`s hockey team vice-captain Birendra Lakra and women`s team vice-captain Deep Grace Ekka also handed over the team jerseys signed by all the players to the CM.

He said that Kalinga Stadium has become a global hub of hockey. The next edition of the Men`s Hockey World Cup will also be played at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Men`s hockey team vice-captain Birendra Lakra and women`s team vice-captain Deep Grace Ekka also handed over the team jerseys signed by all the players to the CM.
