The most recent thumping victory in the Pipli Assembly bye-poll, in Odisha, on Sunday last,  has set a new norm in politics in Odisha. By none other than the chief minister Naveen Patnaik himself who in the last five years, to be specific, has transformed electoral politics from being hide-bound. Unlike many politicians in the country, Patnaik has once again proved that he believes in the politics of trust rather than rabble-rousing.  

Politics in Odisha, mainly electoral politics, has been proved that no one in this field is above the scrutiny of the people. Including the highest in the system.

Symbol Of Trust!

Pippli bye-poll results have also once again demonstrated that the man behind the entire gamut of all activities, the BJD supremo and the chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, also comes within the scrutiny yet, with time passing to over two decades in power, he has transformed his persona from an ordinary politician to a symbol of trust, if it can be said so.

As long as his writ is there, there is little scope for others and his rivals, in particular,  in the field of politics and have lesser reasons to be semantic about it. Not that he is doing or has done fairly recently, he has exhibited the trust factor in earlier occasions that his way of politics is much different than many in the country or maybe unique in a way. 

For example, he has not strained himself for any direct campaign for the last bye-polls and neither he had done so in the recent civic polls. A clear message which manifested that, in politics, it is not always the rhetoric that is important but an inbuilt trust which has taken little over 21 years for him to become saturated in the state, so has become his real forte. 

One can recall the days when there was a blitzkrieg of campaign by the NDA in 2019, a high decibel rabble-rousing was echoing all over the country. It was such a hostile air created by the Bharatiya Janata Party, that anyone in Patnaik`s place would have felt the earth underneath slithering!  But he exuded confidence in himself rarely visible in many of his link. Composed, decent and disarming, few rare traits in politics unnoticeable presently. 

Naveen Juggernaut Rolled

Then back home in Odisha, it was all quiet amid all the cacophony created by the opposition. The quietness of him was unnerving when the man took to a lonely bus ride and a few gestures of gratitude from within the bus and a very few appearances appealing for blessings. 

That was all how Patnaik’s juggernaut rolled through the state bereft of any handles like freebies, attacks and insinuations at the rivals.

It was not even that in the case of the Pipli bye-poll. Patnaik never for once went there throughout the fractured schedules of the election. Just a virtual address a few months back that has slipped away from its contingency.   

It was a part of politics, no doubt but, the taste of it was novel. While this time it was less than a mere virtual appearance once and that was all. 

Pipli victory was not challenging guesswork for political analysts but a repeat of his self-confidence with which he has been able to script new chapters one after the other, from copybook to people`s politics.
