2 children murdered in Mayurbhanj over suspected witchcraft of mom

BHUBANESWAR: Two brothers, aged 10 and 3, were murdered at Dhipabandha village under Badampahad police limits in Mayurbhanj district, police said on Saturday. "These villagers might have killed my wife and kids suspecting her witch," said the man in his complaint.Bodies were sent for postmortem. "When they didn't return home, Madhusudan, a daily wager, informed the police on Fridayabout the missing of his wife and kids. After staying at her father's house for a few hours, she left with her kids in the afternoon for Dhipabandha. Their bodies were discovered in a forest near the village.Police said the villagers murdered the siblings because they suspected their mother practised witchcraft.The deceased were identified as Jagannath Sinku, 10, and Sashanka Sinku, 3, sons of Madhusudan Sinku , 54, of Dhipabandha village.

Mother of the kids, Rinki, 35, is still missing, police sources said.According to Badampahad police station inspector-in-charge Naba Kishore Das, Rinki with his two sons had gone to her father's house at Raipada, 3 km from Dhipabandha, on Tuesday. After staying at her father's house for a few hours, she left with her kids in the afternoon for Dhipabandha. But she didn't reach home on the day, said Das."When they didn't return home, Madhusudan, a daily wager, informed the police on Fridayabout the missing of his wife and kids. A villager informed us about the lying of two bodies in the forest. We recovered the bodies on Friday night," said the police officer.Madhusudan in his complaint alleged that some villagers were not happy with his family members. They were suspecting his wife as a witch. They had altercation with the villagers over the witchcraft issue a month ago. "These villagers might have killed my wife and kids suspecting her witch," said the man in his complaint.Bodies were sent for postmortem. Police have started investigation into the matter after detaining three villagers. "We have also launched a search operation to trace Rinki," said Das.SP (Mayurbhanj) Anirudh Kumar Singh said he has sent forensic team with police staff to the spot to investigate into the matter. "After getting postmortem report, we can say the reason of the death. It is very early to say anything regarding the reason of the death," he added.
