Five students abduct teacher in Angul district

The victim, identified as Pradyumna Kumar Beura , teaches philosophy at the college. We will start a procedure to expel the students from our college," he added. There they thrashed the teacher and let him off with a warning.On receiving information about the incident from the college authorities, the police rescued Beura.

BHUBANESWAR: Five students of Odisha's Angul Government College on Friday abducted a teacher from the college premises, only to let him off around 3km away after beating him up mercilessly.The prime accused in the case has been detained and police have started investigation into the matter.The teacher had reportedly caught one of the five indulging in a malpractice during an examination held last year. The victim, identified as Pradyumna Kumar Beura , teaches philosophy at the college. The accused are Plus III students of the same college, sources said.Police said the students entered one of the classrooms of the college at around 11am and dragged Beura out. They came on two motorcycles, forced him onto one of the bikes and sped towards Hulursing, about 3km from the college. There they thrashed the teacher and let him off with a warning.On receiving information about the incident from the college authorities, the police rescued Beura. The college authorities have lodged a complaint with the police regarding the assault on Beura."After rescuing him, we admitted him to a hospital in Angul town. He is in a state of trauma. Investigation is on. One of the five students has been detained," said Angul town police station inspector Subash Sahu Quizzed about the motive of the abduction, the officer said a plus III final year student was not happy with the teacher because he had caught him cheating in an examination last year. He added that the student was in the lookout for an opportunity to avenge his insult, so he gave shape to his plan on Friday.SP (Angul) Brijesh Kumar Rai said, "We are investigating the matter. We are trying to nab the other students involved in the case."However, Sagar Nayak, brother of an accused in the case Srikant Nayak , lodged a complaint with the Angul police station alleging that Beura was meddling in the love affair of his brother with a girl of the same college.College principal Santanu Kumar Sar said Beura is a guest faculty in his college. "Some youths dragged him out of the college. We have sent the CCTV footage to the police for investigation. I have convened a college council meeting to discuss the issue. We will start a procedure to expel the students from our college," he added.
