Farmer commits suicide in Odisha's Dhenkanal

BHUBANESWAR: A farmer of Dhenkanal district on Wednesday committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree. Two blocks which have experienced scanty rainfall in the state are Odapada in Dhenkanal district (-71.9 per cent) and Kaniha in Angul district (-59.5 per cent). His family members also alleged that he took this step after his crop was lost due to drought. We will also find out his actual agricultural land and loan amount," he added.Another farmer Artabandhu Rout of Khandiabandha village of the district attempted suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday morning. Later his younger brother Prakash Kumar Sahu, 38, and others found his body at the backyard.

His family members alleged that he took this extreme step after failing to repay the loan borrowed from different sources for farming.He was identified as Ashwin Kumar Sahu , 50, of Beltikiri village under Sadar block in the district, around 85 km from here.Sahu hanged himself from the tree early in the morning when their family members were fast asleep.

Later his younger brother Prakash Kumar Sahu, 38, and others found his body at the backyard.

They immediately took him to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Dhenkanal, but the doctors declared him dead.Prakash said his elder brother had borrowed loan of around Rs 2 lakh from different sources to cultivate four acres of land this year.
