The state stopped OJEE for BTech in 2014 and started taking students from among JEE Main qualifiers. The Opeca said the JEE Main route is responsible for lower turnout in admissions. BHUBANESWAR: The private engineering colleges on Thursday asked the state government to opt out of the JEE Main , the national-level entrance test for BTech admission , for admission in colleges inside Odisha from the next academic year (2018-19).In a memorandum addressed to technical education secretary Sanjay Singh, the Odisha Private Engineering College Association (Opeca) pleaded re-introduction of state-level Odisha joint entrance examination (OJEE) for first year engineering admission. "Since there are only nine JEE Main centres and the all-India entrance test is based on curriculum of Central Board of Secondary Education, the number of students appearing it is lower," Opeca secretary Binod Dash said.Opeca said the vacancies of BTech seats went up to around 75% this year, a main reason behind which is JEE Main. Since the government is already conducting OJEE for other technical courses such as MBA and MCA, holding it forBTech won't need extra pressure," Dash said.Out of the 29 states and seven union territories, only six states (Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Odisha) have been admitting students from JEE Main qualifiers while he rest are holding their own state-level tests, Opeca pointed.A government officer said the Opeca memorandum will be examined.
