‘Moderate to heavy’ rain from tomorrow in Bhubaneswar

The IMD has forecast moderate to heavy rain across the state from October 18. The exact movement and severity of the low-pressure area can only be predicted on Tuesday, it added. The Odisha and Andhra coast is expected to get heavy rain, followed by West Bengal as the low-pressure area is moving northwards from the central part of the Bay. The low-pressure area that has formed over the central part of the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cause heavy rain from Wednesday, the weather office said. Rain will continue till Friday, IMD sources said.Meanwhile, the state capital saw a foggy morning on Monday, prompting many to predict the onset of winter.

BHUBANESWAR: Though most parts of the state witnessed a hot and humid day on Monday, the India Meteorological Department IMD )'s Bhubaneswar centre has held out hope for rain relief.Those looking forward to a dry, crisp Diwali are likely to be disappointed. The IMD has forecast moderate to heavy rain across the state from October 18. The low-pressure area that has formed over the central part of the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cause heavy rain from Wednesday, the weather office said. The exact movement and severity of the low-pressure area can only be predicted on Tuesday, it added. The Odisha and Andhra coast is expected to get heavy rain, followed by West Bengal as the low-pressure area is moving northwards from the central part of the Bay."The system is changing direction very frequently so it is not possible for us to assess its exact movement and severity yet," said the director of the IMD's Bhubaneswar Regional Centre, Sarat Chandra Sahu.Sources said the system was also likely to cross the sea at the Andhra coast and move towards Odisha via land.There is a high chance of gusty winds blowing along the Odisha coast and fishermen have been asked to remain cautious while venturing into the waters. Rain will continue till Friday, IMD sources said.Meanwhile, the state capital saw a foggy morning on Monday, prompting many to predict the onset of winter. "There was a nip in the air and we could see fog in the morning. I felt as though winter is near. The weather is definitely changing but the day was as humid as ever," said Rabindra Sahu, a senior citizen.
