Expelled from hostel for not paying fee: J&K students

Surinder BhardwajFatehgarh Sahib, February 21Two MBA students of Punjab Institute of Management and Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh, belonging to J&K have accused the institute management of charging hostel and mess fee worth Rs 26,000 even when they did not stay in the hostel. When they came back, the college management demanded Rs 26,000 from them for hostel and mess charges. They refused to pay saying they never stayed in the hostel, but instead of sorting the problem, the college management forced them out of the hostel accusing them of indiscipline. Institute Director Dr Manisha Gupta refuted all allegations and said they demanded tuition fee only.

Akib and Adnan, students from Anantnag, in their police complaint, said they belong to poor families. In December, they fell ill and went back to J&K. When they came back, the college management demanded Rs 26,000 from them for hostel and mess charges. They refused to pay saying they never stayed in the hostel, but instead of sorting the problem, the college management forced them out of the hostel accusing them of indiscipline. They said they were now staying in a rented room at Mandi Gobindgarh and it was difficult for them to pay heavy rent. They said their parents also took up the matter with the management, but to no avail. Institute Director Dr Manisha Gupta refuted all allegations and said they demanded tuition fee only.
