CAMPUS NOTESChandigarh: The Teacher Education Congress concluded at Panjab University on Wednesday. The teacher education system should also have more of a practical element attached to it. Prof Arvind from the IISER, Mohali, spoke on the topic, "Curriculum Transactions and Practices in Teacher Education". Prof Vandana Mehra highlighted the importance of technology. He added, “Autonomous teachers can be trained by practitioners in education only if the professors and scientists are also teaching in schools”.

He added, “Autonomous teachers can be trained by practitioners in education only if the professors and scientists are also teaching in schools”. The teacher education system should also have more of a practical element attached to it. The Indian curriculum has a political and economic aspect to it, which needs to be addressed. Prof Vandana Mehra highlighted the importance of technology. She cautioned teachers that it must be used sparingly and effectively. Amit Roy, a researcher from Finland, cited the case of the Finnish education system where trainee teachers are given experiential learning by exposing them to practical teaching sessions in a school attached to the institutions and are mentored by schoolteachers.
