Bags 8 wickets against Gurdaspur; Deepak scores ton for Patiala; Amritsar beat Ludhiana Chandigarh, May 21 Riding on a brilliant performance by pacer Amit Shukla, Chandigarh bagged three points on the basis of first innings lead against Gurdaspur in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket U-19 Championship for Dhruv Pandove Trophy on Monday. On the last day of the match, at DAV Senior Secondary School Sector 8, Shukla claimed eight wickets to wreck the visitors’ batting line-up. Chasing 339 runs, Gurdaspur folded their first innings on 127, while they were playing at 96/6 in second innings when the match ended. Gurdaspur opened with Aditya Narain and Anirudh Tandon but the partnership lasted for nine runs. Shukla accounted for Tandon (2). Thereafter, Udhay Bhagwan cleaned Narain (16) and Ekamjot Singh (8) to reduce the side to 40/3. Anmol Salgotra and Dilpreet Bajwa joined hands but could only add two runs to the total. Salgotra (4) fell to Harshit Singh. Then Shukla scripted Gurdaspur’s downfall as he claimed Bajwa (41 off 77 balls, with eight boundaries), Kartik Behal (15) and Inder Singh (0) to reduce the side to 103/7. Madhav Pathania then joined Ashish Kushwah but could only add 21 runs for the eighth wicket. Bhagwan claimed Pathania (10) as the team’s total read 124/8. Shukla dismissed Kushwah (6) and Arshdeep Singh (0) bowl out the visitors. For the bowling side, Shukla returned with 6/22, while Bhagwan claimed 3/41. Harshit (1/32) was the other wicket-taker. Trailing by 127 runs, Gurdaspur were asked to follow on. The side managed to close the day on 96/6. Openers Narain and Tandon again failed. The duo added 15 runs, before Narain (5) was claimed by Harshit. Thereafter, Jagdeep Singh cleaned Tandon (15) as the team’s total read 33. Salgotra (2) was claimed by Arjun Azad. Shukla dismissed Bajwa (4) and Kushwah (9) to reduce the side to 73/6. Pathania (9) and Behal (19) were left unbeaten. Shukla claimed 2/25, while Harshit Singh took 2/12. However, after the dismissal of Riteshwar (21 off 65 balls, with five boundaries), Patiala lost two quick wickets of Hiren Goel (37) and Gurmail Singh (1) at 117/6. Thereafter, Tejpreet Singh and Deepak Kumar registered a 70-run partnership to push the total to 187. Gourav Chattai accounted for Tejpreet (24 off 62 balls, with one boundary and one six). Paras Jaidka and Deepak pushed the total to 284 with a 97-run unbeaten partnership for the eighth wicket. Patiala declared their innings with Deepak (109 off 187 balls, with 17 boundaries) and Jaidka (42 off 73 balls, with four boundaries and a six) unbeaten. For Kapurthala, Chattai claimed a five-wicket haul for 104 runs, while Sukhdeep Singh and Vishal Panwar took a wicket each. In their second innings, Kapurthala posted 42/2 when the match ended. Mohit Kumar (16) and Prateek Panwar (9) were unbeaten. Vijay Ranjan and Jaidka claimed one wicket each. Jalandhar then lost half their side for 95 runs in 34.2 overs. Thereafter, Gurpreet and Pushkar Joshi put on 35 runs for the sixth wicket before Joshi was caught and bowled by Ashwani for 11. Gurpreet then partnered Ujjawal to add 51 runs for the eighth wicket which took them past Mohali’s total. The partnership was broken at 188, when Ujjawal was caught by Prabhnoor off Jashan for 16. Gurpreet was caught by Jashan off Hardik on 92 off 145 balls, with nine boundaries and three sixes. For Mohali, Hardik returned with figures of 5/76, while Navpreet (2/68) and Jashan (2/ 32) two wickets each. In their second innings, Mohali were 108/1 in 25.3 overs when the match ended. Kunwardeep (50), Manav Malhotra (32) and Dhanraj (19) scored the runs. Amritsar get seven points Amritsar defeated hosts Ludhiana by an innings and one run to get seven points, including a bonus. Resuming from overnight 16/1, Ludhiana were bowled out for 137 runs in 51 overs. Arjun Puri (41) and Vikas Prashar (31) were the main run-getters.
