Chandigarh, May 24 Aditya Chauhan packed off Lakshay Gupta 6-0 6-0 to march into the boys’ U-14 final in the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here on Thursday. In the final, Chauhan will face Rijul Bhatia, who downed Devansh Verma 6-3 6-1 in the semifinals. Jitin Chetry’s impressive run in the tournament came to an end after he bowed to Shivdev Walia 3-6 3-6 in the boys’ U-16 semifinals. Gaurav Kumar rallied from a set down to overcome Avish Verma in the other semifinal. Kumar lost the opening set 5-7, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-3 6-0 to set up the title clash with Walia. In the girls’ U-16 category, Anushka Sharma registered a 6-0 6-4 win over Anusha Verma in the semifinals. She will play Radhika Vasudeva for the title. Radhika humbled Jaskirat Kaur 6-4 6-3 in the last-four stage. Niharika, meanwhile, came from behind to beat Vanya Arora in the girls’ U-14 semis. Niharika lost the first set 5-7, but fought her way back into the match with a 6-1 win in the second set and then dismissed her opponent 6-2 in the decider to stay in contention for the title. Earlier in the quarterfinals, Niharika humbled Omisha Nischal 6-3 6-0, while Vanya Arora edged out Agrima Gandhi 6-3 6-2. Harleen Kaur and Anusha Verma also won their respective quarterfinal matches. In the boys’ U-16 doubles semifinals, Nishank Thakur and Devanshu Hooda registered a 6-2 6-1 win over Avish Verma and Karan Shandilya.
