Mohali, July 11 The Swift Dzire car, being used by notorious gangster Dilpreet Singh Baba when he was nabbed by teams of the Punjab and Chandigarh police at the ISBT, Sector 43, Chandigarh, on Monday, was taken away by him and his three accomplices at gunpoint from Raikot on February 8 last year. “It was a brand new car when it was forcibly taken away from Italy-based Jatinder Singh, a native of Raikot, who had purchased it just a day earlier. Lately, the car was being used by the gangster for outings along with his live-in partner Rupinder Kaur and her children,” said Chandigarh DSP (South) Harjit Kaur, adding that the case of carjacking was registered at the Raikot police station. She said Baba was so clever that the fake registration number, which he had affixed on the white Swift Dzire car, also belonged to a Haryana-based white Swift Dzire car. This he did to befool the police. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, DSP Tajinder Singh of the State Special Operation Cell said while living in Sector 38, Chandigarh, Baba was constantly in touch with his mother and sister. “He used to meet his sister and mother at the Sector 34 gurdwara in Chandigarh. They used to fix the meeting through Baba’s friends,” said the DSP.The police said Baba and his gang members remained in touch through the Internet Line2 software to avoid detection of their locations. “They (the gang members) did not use SIM cards in their smart phones. Instead, they used dongles for Internet calling through the Line2 software in which the caller was provided with a phone number of some other country for calling. The call can be made only after filling a one-time password, which the service provider sends to the user. This way the location of the caller could not be detected,” said DSP Tajinder Singh. He added that investigations were on to find out how these criminals were so tech-savvy.“Baba was a small-time criminal before coming into contact with Maharashtra-based Rinda,” said the police, adding that Rinda could be termed his guru in the crime world. “Baba had committed his first murder at Ropar in a gang war around two years ago and it was Rinda who provoked him to do so. Then again Rinda was with him when he had murdered an informer at a dhaba in Ropar,” said the police. Rinda is also wanted by the Maharashtra Police in connection with murders of three members of an influential family there. “As Rinda was looking for some base in Punjab then, the duo had come into contact and Rinda had helped Baba in fleeing from police custody. The police claimed that now Rinda had got married with a girl from Amritsar and had been silent for the past seven to eight months.According to the police, Harpreet Kaur and her two sons were well aware of Baba’s criminal activities and his being a notorious gangster. “Now, the younger son of Harpreet Kaur had started raising objections to Baba’s visits to their house in Nawanshahr following which the gangster had reduced his visits to her house and started spending more time with her younger sister Rupinder Kaur at her residence at Sector 38, Chandigarh,” said the police.
