PANCHKULA: After cops found a boy of 18 hanged from a ceiling fan with a dupatta at Rajiv Colony here on Thursday and made a case of suicide, his family cordoned the Sector-16 police post, alleging that it was murder.Victim Sandeep was a private driver, who is reported to have shared drinks with friends before ending his life. The family accuses Sandeep’s drinking partners of killing him and making it look like suicide. Sandeep’s relatives took a few neighbours along to the police station for the gherao and protest to put pressure on the cops to arrest the boy’s friends.One of the protesters said: “Sandeep can never commit suicide. He has been murdered. He was with a boy named Vicky and his group last night and they murdered him. Police should arrest them.” Police asked for some time to investigate and managed to take the body to the civil hospital in Sector 6 for autopsy. They booked Vicky and his group under Section 174 (inquest proceedings) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) before adding Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to the case at the Sector-14 police station.Sector-14 station house officer (SHO) inspector Lalit Kumar said: “Whether the boy was murdered or he committed suicide in a drunken state cannot be confirmed until the autopsy report is out. We have registered a case based on what his family told us. The investigation is on.”
