Parmish attack: Now, Mohali police to grill Dahan

CHANDIGARH: The district court here on Tuesday remanded gangster Dilpreet Singh Dahan in judicial custody in connection with the murder of a sarpanch from a Hoshiarpur village, in Sector 38 (West) on April 9, 2017.The court of civil judge Imanbir Singh Dhaliwal also granted Dahan’s transit remand to Mohali police, after they sought his custody in connection with the near-fatal attack on singer Parmish Verma on April 15 this year. The court proceeding took more than six hours, after which Mohali police took Dahan’s custody.Dahan had allegedly fired upon Verma on April 15 and had owned up to the attack on Facebook. In Mohali, police produced him before a local court at night, and it remanded the gangster in police custody for seven days.As Dahan was unable to walk, police carried him to the court room. Earlier, the judge came downstairs to the ambulance in which Dilpreet was brought to the court and enquired about his health. As Chandigarh Police did not seek his remand, Dahan was remanded in judicial custody in connection with the sarpanch murder case.Considering the media interest generated by Dahan’s arrest, police had turned the entire complex into a fortress. To evade media glare, the ambulance’s position was also shifted, so that no one could look inside it.Dilpreet was chased and nabbed on July 9, by a joint team of Chandigarh and Punjab police near the Sector 43 bus stand. He was captured after being shot at in the thigh. He was booked by the Sector 36 police for attempt to murder and under the Arms Act.Chandigarh Police have claimed that Dahan was among the three assailants who shot dead Satnam Singh, sarpanch of Khurd village in Hoshiarpur district, outside a gurdwara in Sector 38 (West) on April 9, 2017. The sarpanch was rushed to the PGIMER where he later succumbed to injuries. Satnam, along with his family and followers, had come to Chandigarh to pay obeisance at the gurdwara. Later, a video made by a woman on her mobile phone was submitted to the police. It showed, police said, Dahan and two others attacking the sarpanch.Mohali polce are expected to question Dahan about how did he go about carrying out the attack on Verma and the preparations he made for carrying out the crime. After the attack on him, Verma had paid Rs 20 lakh to a henchman of the gangster. Of this, Dahan took Rs 10 lakh. Polie have already questioned Verma about the extortion money he paid.
