Sector 18 man gets 10 years for carrying drugs

CHANDIGARH: The district court here sentenced a Sector 18 resident to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for a possession of 15 ampules of the restricted drug buprenorphine.Buprenorphine is a medicine used for treating addiction to opioids. It was also argued that the recovered drugs were planted and he had no role to play in the case. He was walking near the railway station when saw two policemen on foot and changed his direction.The policemen noticed this and went up to him. However, as this drug is highlt addictive, its use is restrict and only a doctor can administer it.The court also asked Abhishek Kumar to pay a fine of Rs 1lakh for the offence.

He was walking near the railway station when saw two policemen on foot and changed his direction.The policemen noticed this and went up to him. As he gave suspicious answers, the policemen checked him and found in possession of 15 ampules of buprenorphine and another15 ampules of Pheniramine Maleaate, an anti-allergen.The defence counsel had pleaded that Abhishek had been falsely implicated as no such recoveries had been made from him. It was also argued that the recovered drugs were planted and he had no role to play in the case. However, after listening to arguments, the court held him guilty.
