Fake job letters: Cops to question accused

Co-accused Navin Singh has also been arrested and is in Delhi. Later, it came to his knowledge that two fake appointment letters were issued in the names of Munish Kumar and Pravesh Kumar.

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh district court remanded a man who was brought on production warrant from Delhi in the fake recruitment and money extortion case in four-day police custody.The accused, Himanshu Suman was produced in the court of civil judge Imanbir Singh Dhaliwal, from where he was remanded in four-day police custody. He was booked under sections 420, 467, 470, 474, 120 B and 511 of the Indian Penal Code . The accused, along with co-accused, claimed to be working as Captain in President House, Delhi and issued fake appointment letters to two persons in Chandigarh for posting in Punjab Raj Bhawan on payment of money.Police booked the accused on May 30, 2018 on the complaint of Rakesh Bhandari, deputy secretary, Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh. According to the complaint, recruitment to a post was initiated by his office for which interviews were held from March 26 onwards.After the recruitment process was completed, his office issued appointment letters to selected candidates on May 16. Later, it came to his knowledge that two fake appointment letters were issued in the names of Munish Kumar and Pravesh Kumar. When statements of victims were recorded, the name of Navin Singh cropped up. He told victims that he is posted as Captain in President House, Delhi and would get them selected if they deposited Rs 40,000 in his account. Later, Navin Singh and Himanshu Suman visited Chandigarh twice.Chandigarh police asked for six-day police remand on the grounds that they had to recover the car in which Himanshu Suman and Navin Singh visited Chandigarh twice. Besides, they said, other aspects of the case were to be investigated. Also, police said they wanted to ascertain who the other gang members were and what other crimes they had committed. Co-accused Navin Singh has also been arrested and is in Delhi. Police said in court that both the accused have to be brought face to face. On the basis of these factors, the court granted four-day police custody of Himanshu Suman to Chandigarh police.
