“The SHO shared the number of Manimajra SHO with me on WhatsApp. When I called up the Manimajra SHO, nobody responded. The ASI said the SHO directed her to send the rape survivor to Manimajra police station as she was a Chandigarh resident. Its other members are inspector Ram Kumar, SHO, Chandimandir; and inspector Aman Kumar, in-charge crime branch. When the ASI called the police control room (PCR) on the directions of the SHO, she was told no PCR vehicle was available right now in the district.

PANCHKULA: A day after three police officials were suspended for negligence in registering an FIR in the Morni gangrape case, suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Saraswati Kumari on Saturday claimed she had sent a message on WhatsApp to women police station house officer ( SHO ) Rajesh Kumari about the complaint, but she took no action. The rape survivor had gone to the women police station in Sector 5 on Thursday night, but cops allegedly refused to register a case. The ASI said the SHO directed her to send the rape survivor to Manimajra police station as she was a Chandigarh resident. When the ASI called the police control room (PCR) on the directions of the SHO, she was told no PCR vehicle was available right now in the district. “The SHO shared the number of Manimajra SHO with me on WhatsApp. When I called up the Manimajra SHO, nobody responded. I told the SHO, but she did not take any action,” the ASI, alleged, claiming she had been suspended wrongly as she had shared every single detail of the case with the SHO.The 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by over 40 persons over four days at a guest house in Morni. The case was finally registered by Chandigarh Police and two persons were arrested on Friday. When the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) R K Meena was asked about the ASI’s allegations, he said, “I have asked ASP Anshu Singla, special investigation team (SIT) head, to prepare a separate report on the allegations after examining the authenticity of the screenshots sent by the ASI.” The SIT includes the SHO accused by ASI. Its other members are inspector Ram Kumar, SHO, Chandimandir; and inspector Aman Kumar, in-charge crime branch.
