GMCH-32 medical board to decide teen's abortion plea

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh district court has directed GMCH-32 to form a medical board to examine a 15-year-old rape survivor said to be 24 weeks pregnant. Investigation officer of the police station concerned has also been directed to submit the report in court.Mother of the minor rape survivor moved an abortion plea in Chandigarh district court on Tuesday. The rape survivor is stated to be 24 weeks pregnant and the accused is also stated to be a juvenile. The status report is likely to be submitted by Monday.The minor boy was held for raping the 15-year-old girl over the last few months. A medical examination was conducted and a case was registered under sections of the rape and Pocso Act.

Since Wednesday was a holiday on account of Independence Day, the plea could not be heard. The rape survivor is stated to be 24 weeks pregnant and the accused is also stated to be a juvenile. Therefore, court permission is required for abortion. The status report is likely to be submitted by Monday.The minor boy was held for raping the 15-year-old girl over the last few months. The case came to light when the survivor got pregnant. The accused was arrested on the statement of the girl's parents after she was medically examined. The boy was sent to a juvenile home after being produced before the juvenile justice board.As per the complaint, parents of the minor girl alleged that the boy lived in their neighbourhood a few years back and knew them. Later, he moved somewhere else. The girl said his mother had died and when his father would go to work, he would take her to his house and rape her. This had been going on for a few months. Her mother noticed that her menstrual cycle had stopped and when she questioned her, she said she was pregnant after having been raped by the accused. She took the survivor to hospital and informed the police. A medical examination was conducted and a case was registered under sections of the rape and Pocso Act.
