Cash, jewellery stolen at Sector 35 wedding

On October, 2016, Sector 36 police arrested three persons, including a juvenile, who used to steal purses in marriage functions in the city. CHANDIGARH: Miscreants stole the handbag of the groom's mother, which contained cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs 4 lakh from a hotel in Sector 35 on August 15. The marriage function was going on at the time. Gorkhi said his wife was carrying a handbag, which someone stole while the marriage function was on. A suspect has been captured on CCTV camera running away from the hotel with the handbag.

No arrest has been made in the case so far.Prem Gorkhi, a resident of Shivalik Vihar, Zirakpur reported that the marriage of his son was going on at hotel Park Inn in Sector 35 on Wednesday. Gorkhi said his wife was carrying a handbag, which someone stole while the marriage function was on. The bag contained a gold chain weighing around 2.5 tolas, a pair of gold earrings, two mobile phones and 2.5 lakh, including envelops of cash received from guests.The complainant said the theft took place when they returned from the gurdwara after solemnizing the marriage at around 3.30pm. He said his wife kept the purse on a chair as she was welcoming the bride's family members. After a few minutes, she found the purse missing. Initially, she checked in the party hall and asked family members and relatives.When she did not get the purse anywhere, she raised an alarm and informed the hotel manager and staff. The hotel manager informed the police about the theft. Ranjodh Singh, SHO, Sector 36 police station, reached the venue with a team and asked hotel staff to show the CCTV footage.On checking CCTV footage, police found a person wearing a blazer sitting near the handbag stealing it. He was seen clearly picking the bag from the chair and going out of the hotel with it.Police also identified a stranger roaming in the marriage function. Police suspect a gang of thieves came to conduct thefts at the function.After recording a statement, Sector 36 police registered a case.On November 8, 2017, Sector-11 police arrested three women and claimed they were stealing money from a wedding function at University Institute of Engineering Technology (UIET) community centre in Sector 25. The accused were from Rajgarh, Madhya Pardesh. On October, 2016, Sector 36 police arrested three persons, including a juvenile, who used to steal purses in marriage functions in the city.
