Tricity records second highest 24-hour rainfall

The airport observatory on Friday recorded 87mm rainfall which is also the highest one-day rainfall of the season so far.Chandigarh recorded one of the highest 24-hour rainfall in a decade. CHANDIGARH: As heavy showers lashed the streets on Friday, the Tricity witnessed its second highest one-day rainfall in over a decade . As per the airport observatory records, the minimum temperature rested at 26.8°C on Friday and 26.7°C on Thursday. At the airport observatory, the maximum temperature on Friday was 29.7°C, while Thursday's reading was 34.6°C.On Friday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.4°C at the city observatory, while on Thursday it was 27.5°C. It was last year that the city had witnessed highest one-day rainfall at 93.6mm.Both maximum and minimum temperatures witnessed a drop at both airport and city observatories on Friday.In Chandigarh, the maximum temperature was recorded 2 degrees below normal at 31.3°C while on Thursday it remained at 35.5°C.

As per the airport observatory records, the minimum temperature rested at 26.8°C on Friday and 26.7°C on Thursday."The rainfall activity is expected to continue on Saturday too," said Surender Paul, Chandigarh met department director.The maximum humidity levels were recorded at 95% in the city as well as at the airport observatory.The weathermen have given a forecast of generally cloudy sky with likely thundery development and light rain on Saturday.The day temperature is expected to be around 33°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26°C.
