Panchkula: Two held for murder of Class XI boy

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Abhishek Jorwal said, “Two accused involved in the murder have been arrested under Justice Juvenile Act, 2015. With the help of the CCTV footage and names given by students, cops managed to identify the minors. PANCHKULA: Police on Tuesday arrested two minors for the murder of a 16-year-old Class XI student outside a government school in Sector 7, hours after his family members held a protest alleging police inaction.Relatives of Vikas Kumar, the victim, blocked the Kalka-Shimla road for a few minutes in the morning, demanding quick action. In the evening, when cops did not give details about the arrests, they again protested at the Kalka-Shimla highway, but were removed immediately. The investigation is under progress.”Family members of the victim later allowed the postmortem at General Hospital, Sector 6.

In the afternoon, police claimed they had arrested the accused.Vikas’ fight with a Class IX student after he had accused his friend of stealing his mobile phone in the school a couple of days back was cited as the reason behind the murder. The Class IX student had warned him of dire consequences and called his friends outside the school to carry out the attack, sources said.Footage from a CCTV camera installed outside a house near the school showed around 15 students, all minors, dressed in ITI uniform fleeing when a Sanskrit teacher, Sushil Sharma, and peon Vinod started to chase them. A minor in red T-shirt and white shorts is suspected to be the prime accused. With the help of the CCTV footage and names given by students, cops managed to identify the minors.
