Garbage deadlock continues, MC says won't budge

CHANDIGARH: As the deadlock between door-to-door garbage collectors and municipal corporation (MC) continued for the eighth consecutive day, MC commissioner K K Yadav has said the civic body would not budge under any pressure.Intensifying their protest, the door-to-door garbage collectors on Tuesday stopped garbage lifting vehicles from entering the garbage processing plant at Dadumajra. They were released in the evening.Yadav said the garbage collectors went to strike on September 11 without giving any notice to the MC. But instead of discussing the issue with the MC, the collectors went on strike immediately," he said. "They went on strike as there was report of Smart City proposal to start door-to-door garbage collection in four sectors. Later, police arrested 561 protesters under Section 171 of CrPC and took them to sectors 34 and 39 police stations.
