Lured by iPhone, FCI staffer loses Rs 14k in fraud

CHANDIGARH: Online fraudsters allegedly duped a Food Corporation of India (FCI) employee of Rs 14,000 on the pretext of selling him an iPhone.Sector 31 police have registered a case under IPC and IT Act. The accused also sent a photograph of a false receipt of courier company overnight to gain confidence of Aman.

CHANDIGARH: Online fraudsters allegedly duped a Food Corporation of India (FCI) employee of Rs 14,000 on the pretext of selling him an iPhone.Sector 31 police have registered a case under IPC and IT Act. The case has been forwarded to the cyber cell of UT police. No arrest has been made in the case so far.Currently posted in the regional FCI office in Sector 31, Aman Kumar, the complainant fell for an advertisement regarding sale of iPhone-6s Plus in an online shopping site on April 30. He dialed the mobile number which was given on the site and a person who picked up a call introduced himself as Somnath Giri, a sepoy in the Army and posted at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan Though the deal regarding the phone was stuck at Rs 12,500, Giri asked Aman to pay Rs 1,550 extra as courier charges. The accused also sent a photograph of a false receipt of courier company overnight to gain confidence of Aman. He assured him to send a delivery next day.Later, Aman made a payment of Rs 14,000 through Paytm on various numbers.But when he did not get the delivery the next day, he contacted the courier company at Sector 47 whose manager told him he had not received any such consignment.Realising that he had been cheated, Aman lodged a complaint with Sector 31 police station. After verifying the facts, police registered a case and handed it over to the cyber cell. Now, cyber cell is scrutinizing the Paytm numbers in which money was transferred by Aman.
