'People should join hands for Swachhata campaign'

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh mayor Davesh Moudgil on Thursday urged the people to join hands for the ' Swachhata hi Sewa ' campaign.Moudgil was addressing the RWAs, social groups, NGOs and local residents at Sectory 26 Community Centre during the 'Swachh Ward Campaign'. Municipal commissioner KK Yadav and area municipal councillor Dalip Sharma were also present on the occasion.The mayor said that 'Swachhata Hi Sewa' programme is being conducted throughout country from September 15 to October 2. He appealed to adopt onsite composting techniques at source level to reduce the MSW. He said that the civic body, government institutions, Punjab University, colleges, schools, social organisations and NGOs are conducting awareness and sanitation drives during this campaign throughout the city.Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav sensitised the stakeholders about segregation of dry and wet waste and hazardous waste separately at their source level so as to segregated collection of waste and easy processing of Municipal Solid Waste.The commissioner appealed the stakeholders to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste produced from their households, shops and institutes etc.
