CHANDIGARH: Maintaining the upward trend in prices, petrol is just 84 paisa short of breaching the Rs 80 per litre mark in Chandigarh. Over the past five months, petrol prices have risen by Rs 8 per litre to reach Rs 79.16 per litre in the city. In December 2015, petrol price was Rs 61.37 per litre, which was hiked to Rs 66.56 per litre in December 2016.On March 5, 2017, it rose to Rs 70.72 per litre and spiralled to Rs 79.16 per litre till date.Diesel price was recorded at Rs 46.84 per litre in December 2015. It rose by Rs 25 per liter at a rate of 53.33% to rise to Rs 55.49 per litre in December 2016.

Diesel has been priced at Rs 71.82 per litre here.The relentless rise in fuel prices over the years has burned a hole in consumers’ pockets.In Chandigarh, petrol prices have been rising since May 1 from Rs 71.77 per litre to a record high of Rs 79.16 per litre on September 20.Diesel prices rose from Rs 64.1 on May 1 to Rs 71.82 per litre on September 20.In Panchkula, petrol prices surged beyond the Rs 80 per litre mark for the first time, to be recorded at Rs 82.61 per litre. Diesel prices also rose to Rs 74.68 per litre.In Mohali, petrol prices rose to Rs 88.36 per litre and diesel prices rose to Rs 74.32 per litre, a record high. In Chandigarh, petrol price touched a record high of Rs 79.16 per litre as against the previous high of Rs 70.72 per litre in March 2017 and diesel prices rose to Rs 71.82 per litre as against Rs 60.03 per litre recorded in January 2017.Petrol prices have seen a hike of Rs 8.44 per litre at a rate of 11.93% and diesel has witnessed a hike of Rs 11.79 per litre at a rate of 19.64%.Going by fuel pricing records, since December 2015, petrol prices have seen a massive hike of Rs 29 per litre at a rate of 17.79%. In December 2015, petrol price was Rs 61.37 per litre, which was hiked to Rs 66.56 per litre in December 2016.On March 5, 2017, it rose to Rs 70.72 per litre and spiralled to Rs 79.16 per litre till date.Diesel price was recorded at Rs 46.84 per litre in December 2015.
