Coach with see-through glass roof makes trial trip on Kalka-Shimla route

The train equipped with the Vistadome coach ran its first trial trip on Saturday. According to the Railways, the see-through Vistadome coach will be a major attraction for the tourists. The Vistadome coach was modified and furnished in the Carriage and Wagon Depot at Kalka. Express IN AN attempt to turn the train journey into a delightful experience for the passengers, the Northern Railway has introduced a Vistadome coach, having see-through glass top roof, on the Kalka-Shimla railway section. The section falling under the Ambala division of Northern Railway is a UNESCO world heritage site and the new addition is a first-of-its kind on the route. The train equipped with the Vistadome coach ran its first trial trip on Saturday. “Passengers can now soak in the aesthetic landscape with better vision through the glass top ceiling of the newly converted coach,” Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal, posted on Twitter on Saturday evening. According to the Railways, the see-through Vistadome coach will be a major attraction for the tourists. The coach has a seating capacity of 36 and in addition to glass roof also has modified windows and conditioned system. It is fitted with designer LED lights, window blinds and cushioned wooden interiors. “This special and aesthetically-designed Vistadome air-conditioned coach CT-15, also known as Nihaar, is a first-of its-kind in this Kalka-Shimla railway section,” the Railways said in a statement. The Vistadome coach was modified and furnished in the Carriage and Wagon Depot at Kalka. The coach will be put into service shortly, according to the Northern Railway. Express “Commuters travelling on this train will have this special coach with a glass-roof Vistadome to enjoy beautiful scenic view of the Himalayas. A unique feature of this coach is that the passengers or tourists can now sit relaxed in their seats and enjoy panoramic view from the Vistadome coach for a better sightseeing experience,” the spokesperson said. Vistadome coaches were introduced last year in India and very few routes at present have the special see-through coaches in the trains. According to the Railways, it has plans to introduce many such Vistadome coaches in the trains to attract more passengers and promote tourism.
