Chandigarh: Sub-inspector shot dead by murder suspect

Sub-inspector Ranbir Singh was in-charge of industrial town Dharuhera’s CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) in Rewari district. A police spokesperson told The Indian Express that the accused Naresh Kumar, who allegedly shot at the Sub Inspector, has also been arrested by the police. Sources say Naresh, a resident of Kharkara village in Rewari district, had killed a hotel owner Rambir on Delhi-Jaipur Highway about two weeks ago. The police spokesperson said that the accused was also wanted in few more murder cases as well as an attempt to murder case. On Thursday evening, police received information about his presence on Alwar bypass near Rajasthan border, hence two teams of police had rushed to arrest him. “When Sub Inspector Ranbir Singh moved to arrest Naresh, the accused shot at him. The bullet hit the SI near the chest. Meanwhile, other policemen nabbed the accused,” said the police spokesperson. Ranbir Singh was rushed to a private hospital at Bhiwadi town of Alwar district where doctors declared him brought dead. Expressing grief over the demise of the Sub Inspector, the DGP said that the police would provide all facilities under the welfare schemes of the department to the next-of-kin of the deceased. Apart from special ex-gratia grant of Rs 30 lakh under government policy, another financial assistance of Rs 30 lakh would also be given under a special agreement of accidental death insurance cover.
