Chandigarh: recruitment of constables; city centre for CBT test cancelled

Four centres — including one in Sector 17, Chandigarh, and three others situated in Delhi — were cancelled for the CBT test. The CBT test is being held at 21 different centres located in Chandigarh, Kharar, Bathinda, Delhi and Gurgaon. Four centres comprised ACME Online Center-17, Chandigarh; Online Edu Solution, Kalkaji, Delhi; SL Computes Online Centre, Gajipur in Delhi; and IP Convent Sr Secondary School, Begumpur, New Delhi. (Photo by Jaipal Singh) HUNDREDS OF candidates scheduled to appear in four centres for Computer Based Test (CBT) test for the posts of constables were left in the lurch as they received text messages on their cell phones to again re-appear in the exam for November 17. These candidates received text messages and mails on their email-Ids on Thursday night. Four centres — including one in Sector 17, Chandigarh, and three others situated in Delhi — were cancelled for the CBT test. A police officer said the candidates, who were scheduled to appear for the test in Sector 17-based centre on November 16 and November 17, would be allotted another centre on November 17. A candidate from Rajasthan requesting anonymity said, “I had appeared in CBT at Sector 17-based centre. I had boarded a bus for my native town but as I reached near Hisar, I received a text message on my cell phone from Chandigarh Police that I will have to again appear for the CBT on November 17. I am yet to receive the location and name of new centre. I heard from my fellow candidates that the computer systems were hacked. A police office in Sector 9 police headquarters declined it.” As many as 670 candidates who had appeared in three centres in Delhi on Thursday took CBT at another centre in Delhi on Friday. Four centres comprised ACME Online Center-17, Chandigarh; Online Edu Solution, Kalkaji, Delhi; SL Computes Online Centre, Gajipur in Delhi; and IP Convent Sr Secondary School, Begumpur, New Delhi. The contract for conducting the Computer Based Test for 36,000 candidates was given to Chennai-based Sify Technology Ltd. The Chandigarh Police also pasted a notice outside the Sector 17-based ACME Online Centre stating re-test for all the candidates who failed to attempt their test here, will again be held on November 17 at another centre. DGP, UT, Sanjay Beniwal said, “Three centers including one in Chandigarh and two in Delhi were cancelled as the computer system in these centres was not properly operated due to technical glitches, including slow internet server and fault in the computers.
