(Representational Image) RELATIVES OF Raj Bala described her as a valiant woman, who was self-confident despite being uneducated and took all the family affairs in her hands after the suicide of her son, Ominder Singh, in 2008. She was fondly called Amma and had an influence in society. Raj Bala’s husband Rajinder Singh had a joint agriculture land along with other family members near Ramgarh in Panchkula district, which was later acquired by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), currently known as Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), in 2000. They were given huge compensation money. Gurinder Singh Chandel, a distant relative of Raj Bala, said, “We all got money from state government and further invested it in purchasing more land in different areas. Khatauli is the native village of royal Chandel family. Raj Bala was a very confident woman. She was the only one who decided to whom her land would be given on contract for cultivation. She monitored all the affairs. Recently, she bought a car for her grandson Divyanshu, but did not allow her to drive the vehicle. She had her own driver, Sonu, from the same village.” A woman relative requesting anonymity said, “Raj Bala did not leave any chance for anyone to guess what she was doing with all the money earned from the land. Whenever she went outside along with the driver, she did not allow him to become part of her conversation with opposite parties. She had spent huge money on the weddings of all her four daughters and even gifted them cars. She was strict with her son Ominder. Recently, Raj Bala had purchased an old house, which was called as Fort House, which adjoins her house at Khatauli.” Rukmani Devi, a close relative of Raj Bala from Bagwali village, said, “Raj Bala was a reserved kind of woman, who did not like to visit anyone without any work. She had her own status in her extended family.” Virender Singh Bhau, ex-president of Panchkula Zila Parishad, a distant relative of Raj Bala, Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta, visited the house of victims. Her elder daughter, Lovely, who is settled near Saha, Ambala, usually stayed here along with her son, Vijay, and on Friday, she left for her house at Saha.
