Diesel smuggling case: Five names crop up in FIR

MOHALI: Police have nominated the owner of petrol pump in Sector 52 in the diesel smuggling case on Friday. Besides this, four more names included M/s Kher Constructions, Chunni-Landran Road, Kharar were nominated in the FIR, said police.SSP, Mohali , Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that they have nominated five new names in the diesel smuggling case. On a tip-off, a tanker (CH100-T-2472) was signaled to stop. Therefore, checks had been stepped up on roads. Police also arrested a tanker driver, identified as Noor Mohammad and Rahul Kumar, manager of a petrol pump from the spot.Police said that due to difference in petrol and diesel prices in Chandigarh and Punjab, assistant excise and taxation commissioner (AETC), mobile wing, Chandigarh had received some complaints of fuel smuggling.

Those, who were nominated have been identified as Anil Kumar Mital, owner of Sector 52 petrol pump, Kuldeep Singh, who owns brick kilns at Mullanpur and Mubarikpur, Usha Chopra, owner of Majestic Palace, Darshan Kumar and Kher Constructions.On Thursday, the excise and taxation department's mobile wing chased and seized a tanker loaded with 2,500 liters of diesel which was being smuggled into Punjab at the dividing road of Phase VII and VIII in Mohali. Police also arrested a tanker driver, identified as Noor Mohammad and Rahul Kumar, manager of a petrol pump from the spot.Police said that due to difference in petrol and diesel prices in Chandigarh and Punjab, assistant excise and taxation commissioner (AETC), mobile wing, Chandigarh had received some complaints of fuel smuggling. Therefore, checks had been stepped up on roads. On a tip-off, a tanker (CH100-T-2472) was signaled to stop. But it tried to sped away. However, it was chased for almost 2 km and intercepted near YPS Chowk, Mohali on ThursdayDuring the investigation it was found that the tanker was loaded at M/s Chandigarh Petroways, Sector 52 B, and the fuel was to be supplied to M/s Kher Constructions, said police.Cops said that the tanker driver and the manager of the petrol pump were apprehended and booked at Mataur police station for violations of the Petroleum Act, Oil Company guidelines, Section 34 (1) of the Explosives Act 15 of 2003 and the Punjab VAT Act, 2005.
