ASP Zirakpur has also been directed to hold meetings with office bearers of the various housing societies to chalk out the plan of action. Actually, it is non-preventive crime as the thieves come from some other state and execute the crime here. Krishan Kumar resident of Ananta homes said, “We were lucky that our son escaped a bid on life. We have already increased the fleet of PCR by adding 5 to 6 more vehicles. Police needs to gear up and change their strategies of policing.”

MOHALI: The residents of Zirakpur have been exposed to high theft rate , hooliganism, markets full of drunkards, snatchings and traffic bottle necks. With traffic chaos at every crossing of a popular market or eating joints, residents are face issue of coming out from their houses till it becomes very emergent. The data obtained from the Mohali police reveal that the incidents of thefts have risen this year as compared to that of previous year. According to the data, this year, till date 54 cases of thefts and robberies have been registered at Zirakpur police station which has increased by 31% as compared to last year’s cases of 41 thefts. The residents of the area now believe that deteriorating law and order has completely jeopardized the sense of security among residents of Zirakpur.Residents alleged that there has been no presence of police or they have never seen PCR patrolling in their area and neither police have even carried out community policing to make the data of senior citizens, single women and tenants living the housing societies.SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said, “We are already on the job. Actually, it is non-preventive crime as the thieves come from some other state and execute the crime here. We have already increased the fleet of PCR by adding 5 to 6 more vehicles. ASP Zirakpur has also been directed to hold meetings with office bearers of the various housing societies to chalk out the plan of action. In the recent incident it has been observed that the thieves had unresisted entry into the society whereas every unknown person must be checked and questioned at the entry gate but here security guard did not do that.”He added that the role of residents also plays an important part as it is not possible to deploy a police officer at every nook and corner. “Residents must remain vigilant and keep an eye on the presence of outsiders and also question them,” said SSP.Rubbishing all these reasonings, residents believe that police is always beating around the bush and rarely come out of hibernation. Krishan Kumar resident of Ananta homes said, “We were lucky that our son escaped a bid on life. Police needs to gear up and change their strategies of policing.”
