UT to invite carpool software proposals

CHANDIGARH: The UT administration has started working towards starting a carpooling system in the city following the directions of NITI Aayog UT officials have now decided to invite proposals from different companies to develop the software. The proposals would be submitted before senior UT officials, including transport secretary and UT Adviser, he added. The decision was taken in a recent meeting.A senior UT official said NITI Aayog had proposed a company's name. The administration submitted that growth of Chandigarh cannot be seen in isolation. The software will be similar to one being used by cab aggregators Uber and Ola With around 1 lakh registered vehicles, Chandigarh has the highest density of vehicles in India, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

On an average, every household has more than two vehicles, which has led to deterioration of air quality.To deal with traffic congestion, the administration proposed the formation of a separate Tricity body comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula under its mobility plan. The administration submitted that growth of Chandigarh cannot be seen in isolation. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a regional body in which officials of stakeholders Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh participate to improve transport connectivity across these areas.
