CHANDIGARH: Residents of Sector 15, Chandigarh, on Sunday staged protest against the civic body for marking vending zone in the area. "Relocating vendors from other parts of the city to Sector 15 means inviting more problems. The move will also create law and order problems, drug menace and make the area unhygienic for living," residents said. Areas like Sector 12, Khuda Lahora colonies and Sector 24 could have solved the purpose. This will also pave way for encroachments, which will further create chaos on the already-packed roads of the sector.

CHANDIGARH: Residents of Sector 15, Chandigarh, on Sunday staged protest against the civic body for marking vending zone in the area. The residents here are bothered about the fact that the architectural department of the municipal corporation has earmarked spots for over 1,000 street vendors, which is likely to create disturbance in the future. The protest was held near Old Book market of Sector 15 and residents raised slogans against authorities for selecting their sector to resettle street vendors."Relocating vendors from other parts of the city to Sector 15 means inviting more problems. This will also pave way for encroachments, which will further create chaos on the already-packed roads of the sector. The move will also create law and order problems, drug menace and make the area unhygienic for living," residents said."The civic body should have focused on relocating vendors in the areas that have more area lying vacant. Areas like Sector 12, Khuda Lahora colonies and Sector 24 could have solved the purpose. What is unfortunate is the fact that the authorities never involve residents - who could give better input about the surroundings - before framing schemes and policies," they added.
