Punjab college, univ teachers' protest on Jan 18

The first rally will be organised at Punjab University, Chandigarh, on January 18 in which teachers working in colleges of Chandigarh, Mohali and Ropar will participate. Teachers from government colleges in Ludhiana, Moga, Ferozepur and Hoshiarpur will participate in the protest.The federation urged Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh to intervene and resolve their issues immediately. It will be followed by a rally at GNDU, Amritsar, on January 24 in which teachers working in its affiliated government and non-government colleges will participate.A rally at Punjabi University, Patiala, will be held on January 31 in which teachers working in its affiliated government and non-government colleges will participate. The last rally will be organised at PAU, Ludhiana, on February 12. CHANDIGARH: To presssure the Punjab government to meet their pending demands, teachers of all universities and colleges will go on mass casual leave on February 19.Teachers from five universities, 48 government colleges and 145 non-government colleges in the state have decided to launch a state-wide agitation from January 18.This was decided during a meeting of Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organizations (PFUCTO).Teachers have been pressing for the implementation of 7th UGC payscales; resolution of salary problems of Punjabi University and aided colleges in Punjab; regularisation of teachers appointed against 1,925 posts in aided colleges; filling up of vacancies in universities and government colleges of Punjab; and payment of the entire salary during probation period.PFUCTO general secretary Jagwant Singh said protests will be held in Chandigarh and across Punjab.
