'Include road safety rules in school curriculum'

CHANDIGARH: To create an awareness about traffic safety among students, Vivek High School in Chandigarh, in association with traffic police Chandigarh, held a session on traffic rules. They made it interesting through skits revolving around traffic awareness.All the students took a pledge to abide by the traffic rules and follow safety measures.“It is vitally important to help shape children and young people’s understanding and attitudes towards road safety, to help give them the best chance of keeping safe, while they are young and such sessions are helpful to bring awareness,” said Renu Puri, principal of Vivek High School, while thanking the traffic police team for taking time to conduct such informative session for the students of Vivek High School. More than 800 students attended the session.Addressing the students, chief marshal of traffic police, Wing Commander G S Grewal, explained about the role the students can play in reducing the number of accidents caused on roads.He also recommended that road safety measures be included in the curriculum, be discussed in assemblies and lunchtime breaks, and be performed as skits so that they get ingrained in students.The traffic awareness team also gave students an opportunity to learn the various rules of driving.
