Hry seeks Dera chief’s court presence on Jan 17

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Tuesday filed an application in the special CBI court in Panchkula seeking Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s presence through video conferencing on January 17, when the CBI Judge is to pronounce the quantum of sentence in journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati murder case.On January 11, the Special CBI judge in Panchkula Jagdeep Singh had convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and three others in the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhtarapati. He died three weeks later. The accused were convicted under Section 302 (Punishment for murder), 120 B (Criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and under arms act.On Haryana government’s plea, the special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh issued notice to CBI, dera chief and three other accused to file their reply on Tuesday afternoon.Besides the Dera chief, the CBI judge had convicted Dera manager Krishan Lal and two shooters Kuldeep Singh and Nirmal Singh.According to the CBI chargesheet, Dera manager Krishan Lal had given his licensed revolver and a walkie-talkie to two shooters -Kuldeep Singh and Nirmal Singh - in the presence of Dera chief.
