CHANDIGARH: A city district court awarded life imprisonment to a 27-year-old engineer for raping a BA final-year student in 2016 and refusing to marry her because she belonged to a Scheduled Caste.The court of additional district and sessions judge Vijay Singh pronounced the sentenced after holding the Himachal Pradesh youth guilty under sections 376 (2)(n) ( rape ) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC and ST Act.
