The PGI said the grievance of the medical technologists was still under consideration and under such circumstances the token strike would be wholly unjustified and against public interest. CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has stayed the strike notice issued by PGI Medical Technologists Association to go on mass casual leave on February 18.The strike was intended to be observed on account of non-implementation of the Professor Ashok Kumar Gupta Committee report for grant of grade pay of Rs 4,600 with effect from January 1, 2006. The PGI contended that it had sent the proposal for implementation of the committee report for grant of grade pay but the central government had rejected it.However, representatives of the PGI employees union had held a meeting with the joint secretary, ministry of health and welfare on December 21, 2018, at New Delhi following which PGI had again taken up the matter with the ministry on January 17. The court, however, issued notice to the central government and sought its reply by the next date of hearing on February 21.The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research had filed a writ petition against a strike notice issued on January 16.The PGI stated that on an average 10,000 patients visit the OPD in the hospital daily and the strike would cause immense disruption in the smooth functioning of the hospital, which would be a violation of Section 5 of the East Punjab Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1947.
