Bhola’s jail terms for 24 years in three cases

MOHALI: Wrestler-turned-drug runner Jagdish Bhola , former DSP of Punjab police, will spend 24 years of his remaining life in jail after being convicted in multi-crore drug racket. Bhola was sentenced to 12-year, 10-year and 2-year rigorous imprisonment in three different cases by the Central Bureau of Intelligence court in Mohali. In each case, the judge has awarded him multiple sentences under various counts and these will run concurrently.The court sentenced Bhola under Section 427 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), district attorney Sanjeev Batra said. These sentences will run consecutively. Section 427 of the CrPC reads, “When a person already undergoing a sentence of imprisonment is sentenced on a subsequent conviction to imprisonment or imprisonment for life, such imprisonment or imprisonment for life shall commence at the expiration of the imprisonment to which he has been previously sentenced.”The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 5.43 lakh in all the three cases on Bhola.

However, the prosecution failed to establish charges against Bhola in four other cases and he was acquitted in these cases.Besides Bhola, CBI special judge Nirbhow Singh Gill convicted 21 other accused, including NRIs Anoop Khalon, Sukhjit Singh Sukha, Kulwinder Rocky, Kuldeep Singh, Sandeep Singh , Satinder Dhama, Bhola’s driver Davinder Singh Happy, Vsawa Singh, Amritsar-based hotelier Dev Raj Behal, New Delhi-based businessman Rakesh Sadhu, industrialists Jagjit Singh Chahal, Gurjeet Gabba, his manager Suresh Kumar, Davinder Kant, Manpreet, Gabbar Singh, Kulbir Singh, Harpreet Singh, Baljinder Singh, Sachin Sandhu and Kulvir, in seven FIRs registered under the NDPS Act.
