Retired engineer duped of Rs 19 lakh, 4 booked

AMBALA: The Baldev Nagar police have registered a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy on the complaint of one Suraj Bhan, retired chief engineer (electrical) from Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads), Haryana - who was duped of Rs 19 lakh on the pretext of good returns on investment in a business.The district police have registered a case against four accused who have been identified by the complainant - a resident of Dhakoli in Zirakpur - as AK Sharma, Vinod Agarwal, Bharadwaj, and Rastogi under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).On January 24, 2019, Suraj Bhan received a call from AK Sharma who identified himself as a contractor based in Meerut working with a company and offering a job of supervision at an upcoming industrial unit in Gholu Majra of Derabassi.The FIR states, “AK Sharma offered a job for a retired engineer of the electrical field for supervision at an upcoming industry in Gholu Majra. I asked that from where did you get my number to which AK Sharma said he got it from PK Singla of your department. In this connection, a meeting was held with some Mr Bharadwaj (said to be a manager of company) on February 2, 2019 at Hotel Radisson in Delhi's Paschim Vihar. Bharadwaj told me that the electrical work is worth Rs 10 crore and he would provide me 6 to 7 per cent commission. He told me that Vinod Agarwal has the industry of brass established with the name of Jyoti Metal Industries in Moradabad who is setting up another unit in Gholu Majra.”“Another meeting was held on February 6, 2019 at Piccadilly Hotel in Chandigarh with Agarwal, Bharadwaj and AK Sharma and they lured me to invest in the unit for getting good returns and I accepted investing Rs 20 lakh. I handed over Rs 19 lakh to the accused at a hotel in Jaggi City Centre of Ambala City on February 8, 2019. The accused said on February 9, they would be coming for an agreement in Panchkula but when I called on the day, they started ignoring calls and switched off their mobiles.”SHO Baldev Nagar said, “The complainant alleged that he has been duped of Rs 19 lakh at a hotel in Jaggi City Centre. We have registered the case and started the investigation."
