Civic body trims rose fest for CRPF martyrs' kin

The officials decided a few traditional competitions for children like “Rose Prince” and “Rose Princess” would be organised in a simple manner. Photography, kite-flying (in tricolour only), and on-the-spot painting competitions and “Rose Quiz” would take place. It was also decided to set up an enclosure right in front of entry gate dedicated to CRPF jawans, allowing dignitaries and visitors to pay homage to the martyrs. Besides, plays on patriotism, songs and dance performances would be held. Patriotic songs and instrumental performances would be showcased.

CHANDIGARH: The municipal corporation (MC) will give Rs 25 lakh to relatives of CRPF soldiers killed in the Pulwama attack after cutting down expenses on musical events and competitions to be held during the three-day Rose Festival at Rose Garden, Sector 16, from February 22.The decision was taken in a meeting attended by municipal commissioner K K Yadav, senior deputy mayor Hardeep Singh, deputy mayor Kanwarjit Rana and other councillors on Monday.The officials and councillors unanimously decided that the festival will be dedicated to the nation and cancelled all cultural events. Patriotic songs and instrumental performances would be showcased. It was decided the saved budget from the festival, Rs 25 lakh, will be given to families of martyrs of CRPF troopers killed in Pulwama.The MC decided a cultural evening of patriotic songs and plays would be organised on February 23 at the main stage dedicated to the brave soldiers. Besides, plays on patriotism, songs and dance performances would be held. It was also decided to set up an enclosure right in front of entry gate dedicated to CRPF jawans, allowing dignitaries and visitors to pay homage to the martyrs.
