Mohali health dept sends DNA samples for test

MOHALI: The health department of Mohali on Friday sent DNA samples of two newborn babies (a boy and a girl) and their parents to a forensic laboratory. Controversy surrounded Kharar Civil Hospital on Thursday when two families got confused in identifying their respective babies. A high drama was witnessed at the hospital and the authorities had to call police to take control of the situation. The misunderstanding was created after a midwife employed at the hospital handed a newborn boy to another family.” Officials of Kharar Civil Hospital said that both babies were born with a time difference of 17 minutes. The families said that their babies got swapped due to negligence of the hospital staff.SMO Surinder Singh, said, “There is some misunderstanding between the two families and the confusion will be cleared once DNA reports are out.

The girl child was born at 3.17pm and the boy was born at 3.34pm.When the husband of one of the mothers checked the medical records of the hospital and spoke to a doctor, he came to know that his wife had given birth to a boy, but they were wrongly given a girl.
