Cops taken for kidnappers, panic grips Zirakpur

MOHALI: There was an atmosphere of unrest in Zirakpur on Sunday after there were rumours of kidnapping by four unidentified men. We are trying to ascertain the identity of the four police officers, who were dressed in plain clothes, from the CCTV footage. "Zirakpur police station house officer (SHO) Gurjeet Singh said they have not found any evidence of kidnapping, but are relieved to know that it was a mere case of cops arresting an accused on the run. The bystanders immediately informed police and for the next few hours Mohali police remained on their toes.Police started scrutinizing CCTV footages from various places around the crime spot, but could not identify the four alleged kidnappers or the man who was taken away.When contacted SP(D) Varun Sharma, he said, "I was told about the incident, However, we learnt that it was not a case of kidnapping, but some other state's police arresting an accused. However, as the day progressed, it came to the fore that the four men were actually police personnel dressed in plain clothes, and were taking away an accused in their car.After the news spread, Mohali police remained on their toes trying to ascertain the policemen and the man who was taken away by them.Around 11.30am four men in white Maruti Swift Dezire car bearing Chandigarh registration number arrived at VIP Road and allegedly shoved a man into the car and drove away.
