Dominos pays Rs 2,000 for failing to appear

CHANDIGARH: Dominos was made to pay Rs 2,000 to a complainant who had alleged wrongful charging for carry bag for failing to appear in the state consumer disputes redressal commission and file a reply on the said date. Even otherwise, carry bag is part of packing and a customer cannot be expected to carry hot pizza boxes in his hand. But they charged Rs 13.33 for a paper carry bag.Chandgothia contended that the price of the carry bag was nowhere mentioned in the outlet. The cost was paid by Domino's on Monday.The complainant, an advocate Pankaj Chandgothia, had filed a complaint against Sector 8 Chandigarh branch of Dominos, alleging that he had sent his driver to bring a pizza from them.

But they charged Rs 13.33 for a paper carry bag.Chandgothia contended that the price of the carry bag was nowhere mentioned in the outlet. Even otherwise, carry bag is part of packing and a customer cannot be expected to carry hot pizza boxes in his hand. Chandgothia also pointed out that the said carry bag carried the name of Dominos on both sides, which amounted to making the customers pay for their advertising.When the reply was to be filed on January 14, no one appeared on behalf of Dominos and the commission ordered ex-parte proceedings against them. Dominos filed revision against the said orders, but the commission imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Dominos for their negligence.The case was heard on Monday, Dominos paid the cost and filed a reply. The case was further adjourned to April 24, 2019.
